Business Development Manager

Founded in 2013, Hydropothecary aims to provide Canadians with quality products and an exceptional customer service experience. Though we currently sell directly to patients with a prescription from their doctor through our company website and 24/7 call center, we are looking forward to recreational markets opening in July 2018. As such, we are currently seeking Business Development Managers in various areas across Canada to work closely with our Vice-President of Business Development in preparation for this new market.

Number of positions available: 3 – Quebec/Maritime, Ontario, Western Canada.

Reporting to the Vice-President of Business Development, the Business Development Manager is involved in planning for upcoming recreational markets, develops and manages relationships with potential retailers (either governmental and/or private) and is responsible for wholesales within these channels. The incumbent’s objective will be to secure distribution and continually expand sales of Hydropothecary’s multiple product lines, positioning Hydropothecary as a core supplier of quality marijuana for recreational use.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with key decision-makers from provincial and territorial control boards and/or private retailers charged with oversight of the recreational cannabis, securing Hydropothecary’s position as a core partner and trusted resource within the industry;
  • Leverage relationships to increase Hydropothecary’s visibility, as well as sales and distribution opportunities;
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure achievement of sales and growth targets;
  • Implement and provide feedback on distribution plans for respective provinces and/or sub-markets, report on progress and recommend adjustments as this burgeoning market continues to evolve;
  • Work with Upper Management and Finance to define budgetary requirements and a channel-specific sales forecast;
  • Develop and deliver persuasive presentations to secure distribution of Hydropothecary product, and continually increase market share;
  • Execute an overall sales program that includes services and pricing;
  • Ensure annual sales volumes, revenue and margin contribution meet planned levels in order to meet and exceed the regional business plan;
  • Develop and, upon approval, execute value-added initiatives and programs, such as incentives, events, education programs, etc.;
  • Ensure regular visits to retail locations, provide merchandising and operations assistance, and ensure overall satisfaction of the retailer’s needs and ensuring loyalty to our brand;
  • Manage POS material, from development to delivery and installation;
  • Track industry/competitive information within the province for the recreational cannabis market and report to the Management Team;

Qualifications

  • University Degree in business, sales and/or marketing (or equivalent);
  • Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience, with a proven track record for meeting or exceeding sales targets;
  • Previous experience within a wholesale distribution model is required, with strong knowledge of Canada’s alcoholic beverage industry being an asset;
  • Knowledge of cannabis products and the cannabis industry are an important asset;
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle;
  • Ability and availability to travel regularly.

Oil Product Processing Specialist

The Hydropothecary is a licensed producer of medical marijuana, which is sold legally and directly to patients with a prescription from their doctor through our company website. Founded in 2013, Hydropothecary aims to provide Canadians with quality products and an exceptional customer service experience.

We are currently seeking an Oil Product Processing Specialist who will be responsible for the extraction, blending, diluting and packaging of medical cannabis oil, as well as completing all required documentation. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Preparing and operating extraction machinery;
  • Blending bulk cannabis oils to produce a finished oil dilution;
  • Working with the Quality Assurance team to submit samples for analysis;
  • Entering production and analysis data into an oil production database, and ensuring said database is accurate and updated at all times;
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment, utensils and facilities used in the process;
  • Adhering to safe and sanitary working procedures and practices at all times;
  • Assisting the Dry Product processing team as required.

The ideal candidate holds a diploma in science and experience working in a laboratory environment since this position requires strong attention to detail and strict adherence to written Standards Operating Procedure. Organization skills, demonstrated record keeping abilities and proficiency with MS Office are essential. An understanding of Health Canada’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is an asset. Bilingualism is also an important asset.

Corporate Social Responsibility Research Assistant

The Hydropothecary is a licensed producer of medical marijuana, which is sold legally and directly to patients with a prescription from their doctor through our company website. We are currently seeking a Researcher who will report to the Vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility. The researcher will assist in monitoring social and policy issues, as well as the development of CSR-related programs. He/she will also be responsible for coordinating the daily activities and communications of the VP of Corporate Social Responsibility.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Receiving and triaging incoming calls, emails and/or mail, responding as directed or redirecting to the appropriate team member as required.
  • Coordinating meetings and other events, including: invitations, logistics, catering, agenda and document preparations, etc.
  • Conducting research and develop policies/programs in the area of corporate social responsibility, which may include conducting surveys, analyzing data, compiling and interpreting statistics on social issues and policy areas.
  • Drafting, editing, proofreading and distributing memos, correspondence, presentations and/or reports.
  • Maintains and updates files

The ideal candidate holds a degree in Social Science or another related field. Strong communication skills in French ad English, both oral and written, are essential. He/She must have the ability to multi-task as well as strong attention to detail. Strong knowledge of current events and legislation policies is an asset. Proficiency with MS Office is required.

Assistant Grower

Hydropothecary is a licensed producer and distributor of medical marijuana under Health Canada`s Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR). Our company`s founding vision is to combine artisanal growing techniques and quality production with the highest levels of customer service. Out medical cannabis is naturally grown, without the use of synthetic pesticides in state-of-the-art greenhouses. We are currently seeking an Assistant Grower. This is a full-time permanent position which offers excellent benefits.

Role and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Master Grower, the Assistant Grower will execute the following tasks related to production:

  • will maintain and renew mother plants
  • will assist in cloning and germination of new plants
  • will efficiently transplant the plants into desired pots
  • will maintain plants in flowering
  • will effectively scout for insects and diseases
  • will assist in necessary treatments (application of predators, sprays)
  • will be able to follow and supervise work orders provided by the Master Grower
  • will supervise and help with harvesting activities when needed (trimming, drying, etc.)
  • will be able to effectively keep track of inventory of growing plants and work with ICS
  • will be detail oriented and correctly fill out all forms connected to his/her work
  • will show initiative in all activities pertaining to cultivation

Including all of the above-mentioned tasks, the Assistant Grower will know and follow all sanitation regulations, as well as, security regulations in all their performed tasks. They will strictly follow all the operational procedures they are assigned to as described by the SOPs. They will work efficiently, independently and will be very detail oriented. They will be punctual, available and will maintain a good work atmosphere with their colleagues.

Minimum Requirements

  • A college diploma in horticulture or related field is required
  • 2-3 years of work in the greenhousing industry
  • Available to work sometimes on weekends
  • Pesticide certification is a plus, but not necessary

Human Resources Advisor

We are currently seeking a Human Resources Advisor to join our expanding team. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Advisor will develop and implement Human Resources programs and policies, advise employees at all levels on HR-related matters and support recruitment efforts as Hydropothecary continues its rapid expansion.

He/she will be expected to:

  • Development and implement various programs and policies;
  • Provide on-going support and coaching to managers and employees: respond to queries, advise on internal policies, ensure compliance with employment standards and best practices, advise on the resolution of employee relation matters;
  • Participate in a full Pay Equity Exercise and ensure on-going maintenance of Pay Equity as the company continues to expand;
  • Coordinate the performance management program, work with managers to address performance issues as required;
  • Participate in full-cycle recruitment activities: work with managers to identify staffing requirements, screen candidates, conduct interviews, complete reference checks and on-board new hires;
  • Coordinate activities of and participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee;

Cost Analyst

We are currently seeking a Cost Analyst to work at your Gatineau facility. Reporting to the Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis, the Cost Analyst supports the Finance and Operations teams, capturing the company’s costs of production by assessing the input costs of each step of production as well as fixed costs, ensuring all information is accurately reported, and provides detailed manufacturing analytics to management for decision making purposes. He/she is responsible for operations performance measurement and plays a key role in supporting manufacturing initiatives.

  • Analyzes the plant’s operating results for raw materials and various other operating expenses, ensure the accuracy of data and reports, develop performance indicators and make recommendations;
  • Support operations in reviewing, analyzing and reporting on inventory valuation, inventory transactions, direct and indirect labour, direct material and subcontract costs, and other overhead costs incurred;
  • Investigate and correct any discrepancies;
  • Prepare weekly/monthly reporting of actual production costs vs standard costs to support company goals;
  • Prepares forecasts, analyzes variances and makes recommendations;
  • Participate in inventory counts, reviewing physical adjustments and requesting recounts as needed;
  • Prepare cost estimates for new products and product pre-stages, as well as cost saving initiatives using inputs from R&D, Operations and Marketing.

Accountant

We are currently seeking an Accountant to join our Corporate Services team. Reporting to the Controller, the Accountant will support all finance department activities: accounts receivable, accounts payable, month/year end routines and financial reporting. Among other things, he/she will:

  • Maintain general ledger balance sheet accounts by reconciling accounts details and control accounts.
  • Identify, investigate, analyze and report on account variances.
  • Adjust general ledger balances by posting and/or adjusting journal entries, and prepare monthly working papers.
  • Monitor the general ledger for accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Adhere to and promote accounting controls by following policies and procedures, complying with federal, provincial, and local financial legal requirements.
  • Participate in the preparation of quarter end/ year end working papers and close routines.
  • Provide support to the financial reporting function by documenting complete and concise variance analysis into their working papers.
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures.

Facilities Specialist

The Facilities Specialist will work closely with other Facilities staff to ensure the overall upkeep of our installations, maintain production equipment and ensure a safe work environment. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Respond to various requests to repair or replace fixtures and/or equipment. This includes requests such as installing or moving furniture and equipment, drywall repair and painting, minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing and electrical systems;
  • Participate in the development of a maintenance schedule and ensure preventative maintenance of equipment such as HVAC systems, production machinery and building components.
  • Liaise with licensed service providers as required for specific maintenance or installation projects.
  • Conduct workplace inspections to ensure all equipment and workspaces are safe and up to Code, identify and eliminate (whenever possible) Occupational Health and Safety risks.

Purchaser

We are currently looking for a Purchaser to join our Operations team. The position is based at our facility located in Gatineau Quebec. This is a permanent, full time position which offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits.

Reporting to our Director of Operations, the Purchaser is responsible for coordinating purchases of various products and services at the most competitive prices. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Collaborating with internal teams to understand needs and upcoming requirements, identifying suppliers and obtaining quotes, if needed
  • Researching new and existing supplier base, both locally and overseas;
  • Executing contract negotiations;
  • Preparing purchase orders: verifying specifications and price, obtaining recommendations from suppliers for substitute items, obtaining approval from requisitioning department;
  • Tracing shipments and following up on undelivered goods;
  • Identifying cost saving opportunities; Liaising with Finance for payment of purchases by providing appropriate documentation;
  • Ensuring that the right quality and quantity of goods or services are purchased for the organization, and at the most appropriate time;
  • Monitoring available inventory items: verifying stock and scheduling deliveries;
  • Providing purchase planning and control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • The ideal candidate holds a professional diploma in business administration or chain supply management combined with a minimum of five years experience as a purchasing agent or in a relevant role. Candidates must demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities and be able to communicate verbally in French and in English. Mandarin speaking is considered an asset. Experience with ERP systems and within a manufacturing environment are considered important assets.

Manufacturing Engineer

The Hydropothecary Corporation is a licensed producer of medical marijuana, which is sold legally and directly to patients with a prescription from their doctor through our company website or 24/ 7 call center. We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team as we work on a 250,000-square foot expansion and prepare for the upcoming adult-use market.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Manufacturing Engineer will develop and improve manufacturing processes, applying best practices and get required buy-in from all stakeholders. He/she will be responsible for planning workflow and training production team members to maximize efficiency and quality. He/she will also be responsible for the development and implementation of maintenance programs of new machinery and equipment, ensuring continued optimal efficiency.

This is a full-time, permanent position which offers a competitive salary and benefits.

Among other things, the Manufacturing Engineer will:

  • Plan and design production area layouts.
  • Research and/or study new machinery and production area layouts, recommending efficient combinations.
  • Design, develop, implement and troubleshoot new and existing manufacturing processes.
  • Collect and compile operational data. Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment layout.
  • Draft and/or update SOPs, liaise with QA to obtain approval and train staff on work instructions to ensure repeatability.
  • Support decision-making by calculating production, labor and material costs;
  • Conduct studies of the reliability and performance of equipment/machinery and production systems/processes;
  • Develop preventative maintenance standards, schedules and programs for new equipment;
  • Conduct studies to enhance industrial health and safety or to identify and correct hazards upon recommendation from the Joint Health and Safety Committee;
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations and quality assurance requirements.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • University Degree in Industrial and/or Manufacturing Engineering;
  • Member in good standing of Order of Engineers of Quebec (or equivalent regulatory body);
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing setting;
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with complexity in a fast-paced environment, exceptional organizational skills with task prioritization and time-management abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Bilingualism (French and English) is an important asset.

Facilities Manager

We are currently seeking a Facilities Manager who will report to the Director of Operations. The Facilities Manager will oversee our facilities team to ensure the overall upkeep of our installations, maintain production equipment and ensure a safe work environment. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Prioritize, dispatch and ensure completion of requests to repair or replace fixtures and/or equipment. The incumbent will be expected to take part in projects such as installing or moving furniture and equipment, drywall repair and painting, minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Participate in the development of a maintenance schedule and ensure preventative maintenance of equipment such as HVAC systems, production machinery and building components.
  • Liaise with licensed service providers as required for specific maintenance or installation projects and ensure completion of work in accordance with industry and regulatory standards.
  • Manage cleaning staff, ensuring overall cleanliness of work areas and that production areas are cleaned in accordance with Quality Assurance and ACMPR requirements.

Director of Finance

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the suitable candidate will ensure completeness, accuracy and timeliness of financial information for the Company. While leading an existing team, the Director of Finance is responsible for regular day to day financial operations of the Company and providing senior management with financial insight into the business. The successful candidate will be an accredited accountant (CPA, CA, strongly preferred) coupled with approximately 10 years of industry experience in a financial reporting function, preferably within a public company.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the current finance team, coach and mentor as appropriate
  • Monitor risk management policies and procedures to ensure that program and organizational risks are minimized
  • Day to day management of the Company’s treasury functions
  • Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are appropriate for the users and in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Work with all departments within the Company to design and ensure efficient and adequate internal financial controls are maintained and modified as the company’s needs change;
  • Creating and maintaining regular and ad hoc analysis that provides insight into the operations of the business and specific projects
  • Management of monthly consolidated financial statement close process following IFRS;
  • Manage the acquisition of capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed of as appropriate
  • Ensuring compliance with appropriate regulations and tax laws
  • Management of day to day financial operations including accounts payable, biological assets and inventory and payroll, ensuring adherence to appropriate and efficient internal controls;
  • Assist CFO with preparation of quarterly financial information required for Board of Directors and Audit Committee;
  • Oversight of annual audit and quarterly review processes performed by the Company’s external auditors;
  • Such other duties and functions as the Employer may assign to the Employee from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • Candidate must be an accredited accountant (CPA, CA preferred) coupled with approximately 10 years of industry experience in financial statement preparation and financial management position in a public company;
  • Bilingualism required;
  • Experience with IFRS;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Experience managing, coaching and developing staff;
  • Ability to work with all levels within the organization;
  • Highly motivated with strong attention to detail and accuracy;

Candidates must also be able and willing to work from our Gatineau(Masson-Anger sector) facility and must not have a legal impediment to employment.
